Van Megert was born in Oregon and attended public and private schools there. His style is basically traditional with emphasis on light and form, working mainly with acrylics on panel. He builds up his under-ground with a special formula all his own and then proceeds to finish the painting with glazes and scumbling. His work has received numerous awards in competitions and he has paintings in collections across the nation and Europe. He specializes in portraits by commission but has wide interest and enjoys painting land and seascapes, florals, animals and character studies with a particular affinity for ecclesiastical subjects.
“My greatest desire as an artist is to stimulate an awareness and appreciation of the beauty and perfection of God’s creation. Exaltation and humility will blood our beings when we take time to listen to and contemplate the voices of nature. Whether we stand in awe of a snow-capped mountain or bend to examine the smallest of wild flowers, our spirits are fed and our hearts flow to God in gratitude."
